Greek science fiction drama film written and directed by Nikos Nikolaidis.
Having no recollection of who she is, what happened, or how she ended up with an inflamed wound on her arm, a wary woman meanders through the ruins of an endless, ghastly wasteland, uttering a soliloquy. Traps and the morning patrol lurk everywhere. Electronic voices summon the (non-existent) people to abandon the city. Scavenging for food and water in the carcass of a desolate, post-Apocalyptic, dog-eat-dog world, she meets one of the last city guards, and they attempt to penetrate the off-limits zone together. But they have to face the pitiless Morning Patrol, that has laid its snares for the unsuspecting ones who enter the zone.

1. The film’s dialogue contains excerpts taken from works authored by Philip K. Dick, Daphne du Maurier, Raymond Chandler, and Herman Raucher.
2. It is the second film in Nikolaidis’ “Shape of the Coming Nightmare” trilogy. He would rightfully proclaim the film to be ahead of its time and admitted being deeply affected by his own work, saying in an interview “Morning Patrol is a film that I still am afraid to watch. For many, its my best film, I’m just afraid of watching it. Because its a film speaking about all the things I was afraid that would come true and they finally all came true. Silence, ice, broken communication, lack of emotions, murder… I don’t want to talk about this film. It disturbs me”.
3. Nikos Nikolaidis (1939-2007) was a Greek film director, mostly known for films like “Euridice BA 2037”, “Singapore Sling” and others, that are usually considered representatives of European avant-garde and experimental art films. His films’ protagonists are usually outcasts and nonconformists or the cynics and the marginalized people of society with mental and sexual disorders. The main feature of Nikolaidis’ directorial approach was the predominance of form over content.
4. At home, Nicolaidis was seen as an innovator looking for unusual ways to use film language, as well as someone who created a unique aesthetic combining beauty and ugliness. Abroad, Nikolaidis earned a reputation as an eccentric and controversial director. Although, his films are notorious for portraying graphic violence and sex, “Morning Patrol” has neither and it is the most romantic of his films.
